SUPPORT FOR AN AFGHAN FAMILY OF 11
This fundraiser benefits a multi-generational extended Afghan family of 11. Several factors put this family at high risk of persecution in Afghanistan, including their ethnicity as Hazaras (an often-victimized minority group) and long-term professional affiliations with a western human rights organization, the former Afghan army and the Afghan police force. Some family members have been in hiding since the Taliban takeover in August.
The family includes a divorced single mother imperiled by this status, and three little girls under the age of 10 who are currently unable to attend school -- and whose future prospects in the country worry doting parents, that would like to see them educated and empowered. The family is comprised of three generations desperate to stay together: a set of elderly grandparents, their four grown sons, the wife and daughter of one of the sons, and a cousin who is the single (until recently employed) mother of two daughters.
We have filed for US humanitarian parole, which will allow the family to come to the US and claim asylum once here. Their case is strong, and we are hopeful that the outcome will be positive.
We were able to find a wonderful immigration attorney to file pro bono, and an anonymous donor to contribute the required $6,325 (11 x $575 per person) filing fees. However, with their ability to earn an income gone, 11 mouths to feed and a hugely insecure time ahead until they are here with employment authorization, the family is in dire need of financial support.
Please help them towards their collective dream to live in safety, work hard, make a life for themselves and provide an education for the three girls that would otherwise be denied to them.
I can not add much more information on this public fundraiser. For similar reasons I am only posting photos of the three girls rather than family photos. Thank you so much.
