Happy World Refugee Day

Today we honor the strength and courage of millions who have fled their homes due to conflict, persecution, or natural disaster. That’s how the refugee journey begins. But it is also important to talk about where the refugee journey ends. The core of LHI’s work is to treat refugees with dignity as they strive to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

A place to learn and grow

In 2016, we rented an overgrown cotton field on the outskirts of Serres, a small city in northern Greece, with the crazy idea of transforming the field into a refugee community center. First we had one space. Then two. As of this year, we have 5 beautiful spaces that provide a wide array of psychosocial support for two refugee camps nearby. Why is the center so vital? Watch the video above to find out.

Big plans in Uganda & beyond!

Nearly half of all refugee children around the world don’t have access to education. For Aline, a young, Congolese, single mother of two, cost is a big barrier to her kids attending school. After receiving 34 chickens from LHI earlier this year, Aline has earned enough money to keep her kids in school!

LHI's entrepreneurial livestock program helps impoverished refugees like Aline gain financial independence with the help of some feathery (and furry) friends. The positive impact leaves us wanting to do even more. We’ve got a huge sowprize announcement coming up about our future efforts, so stay tuned in the coming months for more…
