LHI just turned 8! Which means we are celebrating 8 years of making a difference in the lives of refugees at home and around the world.
In January of 2016, LHI Founder & CEO Hayley Smith volunteered at a refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesvos. While helping one group of newly arrived refugees get into dry clothes after their perilous journey across the Aegean Sea by dinghy, she found disorganized aid boxes of clothing for the wrong season, very few men's clothing items, and too many baby clothes.
Just then, a lightbulb went off—Hayley knew there must be a better way! A few months later, she founded Lifting Hands International. Check out the slideshow below to learn more about LHI’s origin and history.
