EMERGENCY AID NEEDED IN GREECE
Nearly a thousand people in Serres Refugee Camps are currently without any food or financial assistance. We need your help to continue providing essential food, hygiene, and sanitary products.
At the Lifting Hands Community Centre (LHI) in Serres, Greece, we run weekly distributions of food, hygiene and sanitary products for those without ministry assistance. And food insecurity is becoming increasing prevalent in Serres Camps as the number of people LHI supports has grown rapidly.
Examples of donation impact:
1€ = 1 bag of chickpeas
2.74€ = a food/hygiene pack for 1 person
5€ = sanitary pads for 3 people
15€ = a week of diapers for 5 babies
50€ = dish soap for 165 people
100€ = flour for 150 people
550€ = diapers for both camps for 1 month
Asylum seekers receive food and financial assistance from the Greek ministry. However, once a decision has been issued on their asylum case, they are cut off from assistance. Those who get a positive decision often wait months for necessary documents. Those who get a negative decision must restart the application process through appeals. During this period, neither group can access the job market or travel to their desired country of destination.
